This qualification is designed for learners who want to gain all the skills required to enter the construction industry with a focus on carpentry. This vocational programme allows learners to cover everything from core skills and best practice procedures, safe use of power tools, completing simple building calculations and construction installation processes. This programme provides learners with all the knowledge they need to take up an entry-level apprenticeship in the construction industry.
The New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) with a focus on carpentry, aims to arm you with the basic carpentry skills so you are work-ready.
This programme will give you the skills and knowledge you need so you can enter the workforce ready to embark on an apprenticeship. It has a strong vocational focus, so you'll gain lots of basic skills about timber-framed construction, including tools and machinery, and developing practical skills. Get hands-on experience at our purpose built trades campus building a prefabricated timber sleepout and even a two bedroom home. You will also learn about the building industry, and the role of contractors and sub-contractors. This is a full-time study programme to achieve 120 credits, and you can continue with your apprenticeship training to achieve the Level 3 qualification.
Have completed the Vocational Pathway in Construction and Infrastructure (Level 2) or NZQF level 2 qualification or equivalent or meet the minimum requirements of the NZMA Level 3 Placement Test
Must be physically able to carry out the practical aspects of the programme.

MĀORI AND PASIFIKA TRADES TRAINING (MPTT)
If you’re Māori or Pasifika and aged 16-40, you might be able to get a scholarship to pay your course fees. This course is also part of the Māori and Pasifika Trades Training (MPTT) programme. You’ll also get one-on-one career coaching, help finding work, and other learner support. You can apply for the MPTT scholarship once you’ve enrolled in your course. Ask NZMA to help apply.
