To prepare akonga for employment as support workers in the health and wellbeing sector. On completion of the programme the graduates will have the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work alongside people, family and/or whanau accessing social and community services and be capable of working in a self-managing capacity under broad guidance.

This course will help you learn about Aotearoa’s health and well-being organisation, and then focus on the field of Mental Health and Addiction Support. You’ll discover the range of career paths and learn the skills necessary to work with people, groups, and communities.

New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community Services) (Level 4)

Ākonga must:

  • Be a minimum of 17 years of age

  • Must hold NCEA Level 2 or be able to demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge

  • Have a satisfactory fit and proper person check that will include a Police vet, as required for placement in the health and wellbeing sector 

  • International applicants must be 18 years of age or older; and have a general or academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 under Rule 18 

Students who enrol in this programme will need:

  • Have access to a computer or laptop, a microphone, and a reliable internet connection

In addition to the above, Ākonga who are eligible to enrol in the distance (online) programme must: 

  • Be employed with a minimum of 20 hours in a relevant role at an approved health care provider (either paid or voluntary) and,

  • Have access to a computer or laptop, a microphone, and a reliable internet connection
